Character Role Analysis

Evil

When we see a character named "Evil" in a story, we're pretty sure we know who the antagonist is. Gilliam and Palin loosely based Evil on versions of Satan from Paradise Lost and elsewhere. He's the guy who sets the story's conflict in motion, what with his desire to grab the map for himself and remake all of creation. He doesn't reveal himself until the end, but by playing into the dwarves' greed, he stirs up quite a hornet's nest and ends up nabbing the map the minute those folks stumble into his clutches. That sounds pretty evil to us.
