Henry Miller

No one's surprised to hear that Henry Miller is our protagonist. Even though he's mostly just a voice and a heap of opinions (as the narrator), we do get a sense of who he is (as a character). Even if he's the vilest creature we've ever met, he's at the center of the little action in the book, and he kind of grows on us.
