Love Quotes in Twilight

How we cite our quotes: (Chapter. Paragraph)

Quote #22

[Bella:] "Don't leave me," I begged in a broken voice.

[Edward:] "I won't," he promised. "Now relax before I call the nurse back to sedate you." (24.165-166)

Bella begs Edward not to leave her. Does she cling too strongly to Edward, or is her love for him healthy and normal? Do you think that Edward will keep his promise to remain with her?

Quote #23

[Bella:] "Why did you say that?" I whispered, trying to keep my voice from shaking. "Are you tired of having to save me all the time? Do you want me to go away?" […]

[Edward:] "No, I don't want to be without you, Bella, of course not. Be rational. And I have no problem with saving you, either – if it weren't for the fact that I was the one putting you in danger...that I'm the reason that you're here."

[Bella:] "Yes, you are the reason." I frowned. "The reason I'm here – alive." (24.175, 176-177)

Edward continues to feel conflicted about whether or not he should remain with Bella. He feels that his presence constantly puts her in danger. In his mind, if he loves her, he should leave her in order to keep her safe. Bella clearly has a different opinion on the matter.

Quote #24

[Bella:] "I'll be the first to admit that I have no experience with relationships," I said. "But it just seems logical…a man and woman have to be somewhat equal…as in, one of them can't always be swooping in and saving the other one. They have to save each other equally." (24.194)

Edward can't always be saving Bella from harm's way – she doesn't want to be a damsel in distress all the time. She feels they need more equality in their relationship for it to work. In other words, Bella wants to be a vampire, too.
