Topthorn Timeline & Summary

Topthorn meets Joey as a cavalry horse and is the only horse who can keep up with him.
When the cavalry is captured by the Germans, Topthorn and Joey are put to work as cart-pulling horses.
Not accustomed to pulling carts, Topthorn needs Joey's help to do his job.
As the war cools, Topthorn and Joey spend time as farmhorses on Emilie's farm.
The war doesn't stay away for long, and the Germans take Joey and Topthorn back.
It's a rough winter, and Topthorn gets very ill. He pulls through, though, and starts bonding with their new caretaker, Crazy Old Friedrich.
One day, after climbing a large hill, Topthorn's strength just gives out. He silently pleads for help, but Joey can do nothing to save his friend. Topthorn dies, and Joey mourns.
