Guide Mentor
Character Role Analysis
Adam Smith
It's clear that Adam Smith thinks of himself as society's mentor because he seems to be the only one who knows the truth about how much a free market will make the world better. For him, progress is all connected to free competition and trade between countries. But there are so many irrational and corrupt people in the world that he has a tough time getting his message across.
Then again, he didn't realize when he was writing this book that it would become an instant success and influence the economic policy of modern countries for centuries to come. Looks like the world saw him as a true mentor after all.
