Character Role Analysis

Philip and Gino

Philip represents the cultivated wealthy upper class society of England whereas Gino stands for the poor working class members of Italy. So here we have a clash not only between social status, but also between different cultures.

Philip would like to think of himself as superior to Gino, but he eventually finds himself liking and admiring Gino's company. Despite their many differences (and their frequent arguments), Philip and Gino have more in common than they care to admit.
