In The Wild Children, Alex is just one kid taking on a giant government. Most of the time, we see the Soviet government represented by soldiers—Alex is rightfully terrified of these dudes who bully little children and kidnap entire families without so much as a hello. Regardless, the conflict between Alex and the overbearing Soviet government is the novel's biggest battle.
