Wisteria "Wisty" Allgood Timeline and Summary
MoreWisteria "Wisty" Allgood Timeline and Summary
- We open on the dramatic scene: Wisty and her family are about to be executed by The One Who Is The One in front of a stadium of people.
- Rewind to a time in the not-so-distant past. Wisty and her brother, Whit, are arrested by government soldiers and accused of being a witch and a wizard.
- Spoiler alert: Wisty is a witch, though she had no idea before now. When she inadvertently bursts into flames—and emerges unscathed—she starts to get an inkling.
- After being antagonized by The One Who Is The One, Wisty and her brother are taken to a prison where they're interrogated. Soon they have a "trial" in front of an extremely biased judge and jury. Found guilty of having magical powers, Whit and Wisty are to be executed on their eighteenth birthdays.
- Wisty and her brother are carted off to a new prison that's in an abandoned mental hospital. Their stay there is about as fun as you'd imagine it to be.
- In the prison, Wisty's powers start emerging, though never on purpose. She glows, for example, and she seems to float in her sleep.
- On her second day in court, things don't go much better; frustrated, Wisty accidentally conjures a plague of horseflies. Then leeches. The One Who Is The One turns up and he's not amused.
- Back at the prison, Wisty and her brother are interrogated by Byron Swain. Wisty gets mad and turns him into a lion and then a weasel.
- Celia pays Wisty and her brother a visit in their cell. This is the first time Wisty has seen her in her Half-light form, though Whit has been communicating with Celia for a while now.
- Celia helps Wisty and Whit escape via a portal to the Shadowland, which is in the Underworld. It's super scary.
- A dog follows Wisty through the portal, transforming from a rabid animal to a docile pet. Wisty names her Feffer.
- Wisty and her gang go through another portal to get to Freeland, which is back in the regular world. They go to a department store where child rebels are headquartered.
- Wisty hangs out with the child rebels and they take her and Whit to the City of Progress, a stronghold of the New Order.
- Wisty and her brother agree to help the rebels with a prison raid, but only because she's been told her parents are being held there.
- She devises a plan: She'll use magic to disguise Whit as a guard, then she'll turn herself into a mouse. Whit will rescue a group of kids; Wisty will head into the prison to retrieve their parents.
- At the prison, the brother-and-sister team split up. Wisty goes into the prison and, in a moment of duress, turns back into a human. She's lost her mojo, and she's thrown in a cell.
- After a pep talk from a fellow prisoner, Wisty regains her magic and zaps the guards. She then sets herself on fire and helps all the prisoners escape. Once everyone's outside, she passes out and totally sleeps through a long speech by The One Who Is The One.
- Later, Wisty and her brother find their old house… or where it used to be, anyway. They have a conversation with their parents (or their parents' astral projections, to be precise), who confirm they are indeed a witch and a wizard and are destined to save the world.
- We close on the same scene we opened with. Wisty's still about to be executed, but she feels a little bit hopeful that she and her family will find their way out of it.
