Character Role Analysis

Arthur and the Woman in Black

They may not have even existed in the flesh in the same time period, but Arthur and the woman in black have two significant parallels. (1) They have both been terribly wronged in their past and are dealing with the aftermath of it; and (2) the woman in black is recovering from the death of her child in an accident, while Arthur is recovering from his own malevolent encounter with the woman in black.

The major difference is that Jennet can't move on. Instead, she becomes more and more miserable and vengeful, while Arthur just wants to rebuild his life, move on from the tragedy, and never think about the woman in black again.
