Pocahontas and colonist John Rolfe tied the knot on this day in 1614. It's unclear whether Pocahontas was really that into Rolfe, but their marriage made everything go a lot smoother between the Jamestown colonists and Powhatan's American Indian tribes. If you're thinking to yourself, "Rolfe? I thought his last name was Smith," that's probably thanks to the Walt Disney Company. Their animated Pocahontas focused on a fictional romance between Pocahontas and Captain John Smith—a different colonist named John whose life she allegedly saved—and set it to a smooth, mid '90s adult contemporary pop song.
