N.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton was released on this day in 1988. The album took the gangsta rap genre mainstream and changed the course of hip-hop. It also put N.W.A. on the FBI's radar due to its controversial lyrics that highlighted sex and violence, criticized the government, and contained a whole lot of profanity. Naturally, this only made the group, and the groundbreaking album, even more popular.
