aug 09 Learn More Jet Blue Flight Attendant Quits on Board
On this day in 2010, a Jet Blue flight attendant quit by announcing his resignation over the PA system, grabbing a couple of beers, unleashing the emergency evacuation slide, and riding it out of the aircraft. Steven Slater alleged that a passenger had abused him. Before you salute Slater's bold—and let's be honest, hilarious—move, we should probably tell you that no one onboard Flight 1052 actually corroborated his story. His actions caused concern over the treatment of flight attendants but also exposed holes in airline safety. Ultimately, Slater was convicted on charges of criminal mischief and sentenced to a year of probation.
