Writer Willa Cather was born on this day in 1873. While she was an undergrad at the University of Nebraska, the My Ántonia author wrote music and theater reviews for the Nebraska State Journal, and she was a tough critic. In fact, she earned a reputation amongst performers as a "meat ax"—which, incidentally, is the name of Shmoop's T-Bone Walker cover band.
