Mos Def was born on this day in 1973. As anyone who's ever seen the 2003 remake of The Italian Job can attest, the rapper-actor's sobriquet is an apt one: in the film, his character goes deaf after blowing up a toilet. In reality, however, the name refers to a slang term for "most definitely," and the recording artist attempted to drop the stage name altogether in 2011, changing to his real name, Yasiin Bey. Mos people still call him Mos Def, though.
