dec 26 Learn More Jimi Hendrix Writes "Purple Haze"
Legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix wrote "Purple Haze" on this day in 1966. Contrary to popular belief and, frankly, common sense, Hendrix maintained that the song had nothing to do with drugs. He claimed it was inspired by a dream where he was walking under the sea—and definitely not doing drugs. In the dream, a purple haze engulfed him and he got lost—but absolutely did not do any drugs. In the end, his faith saved him. Not drugs. "Purple Haze" was the second-to-last song Hendrix ever played live, on September 6, 1970, just days before the talented musician's tragic death. From drugs.
