feb 08 Learn More First Giant Panda in U.S.


On this day in 1937, Chicago's Brookfield Zoo became home to the first giant panda to live outside of China. He was brought to America by explorer Ruth Harkness, who named the cub Su Lin, which she translated as "a little bit of something very cute." So that's why you'll never see a blobfish named Su Lin.
