feb 10 Learn More Boris Pasternak Born


Russian writer Boris Pasternak was born on this day in 1890. His most famous work is the novel Doctor Zhivago, which snagged Pasternak the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1958. Congratulations, Boris! See you at the ceremony, right? Not exactly. The USSR was outraged by the novel's stance on socialism and forbade Pasternak from accepting his award. His son ultimately picked up the medal in 1989, almost 30 years after Pasternak's death.
