It's Valentine's Day! Why not pour some champagne out for the seven gangsters killed on Al Capone's orders—allegedly—in Chicago on this day in 1929. The hits were carried out because Capone thought rival George "Bugs" Moran was encroaching on his dog track out in the 'burbs—allegedly. The gruesome event came to be known as the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and was memorialized in song—allegedly—by the rock band Paper Lace with their 1974 hit, "The Night Chicago Died." The band even sent a copy of the song to Chicago's mayor, Richard J. Daley. He was not impressed. Allegedly.
