feb 23 Learn More Eminem Releases The Slim Shady LP


On this day in 1999, rapper Eminem released his major label debut album, The Slim Shady LP. Three years later, his single "Lose Yourself," from the 8 Mile movie soundtrack became the first rap song ever to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The rousing track has popped up almost everywhere since: from wrestlers' and football teams' entrance music (predictable!) to Jodi Foster's 2006 commencement speech at the University of Pennsylvania (…less so).
