feb 25 Learn More Auguste Renoir Born


Impressionist painter Auguste Renoir was born on this day in 1841. In 2011, the Carnegie Museum of Art put up Renoir's "Bathers with Crab" against the Milwaukee Art Museum's "Boating on the Yerres" by Gustave Caillebotte in arguably the most pretentious Super Bowl bet of all time. The Green Bay Packers' victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV meant that the Carnegie had to loan its precious Renoir to Milwaukee. And football fans everywhere took absolutely no notice.
