Ghostbusters hit theaters on this day in 1984. The idea for the ghost comedy belonged to Dan Aykroyd, and he envisioned his old Saturday Night Live buddy John Belushi in the role of the acerbic Peter Venkman. After Belushi's tragic death, another SNL alum stepped in: Bill Murray. Still, Aykroyd worked a tribute to Belushi into the movie. What was it? Slimer the ghost. That's right: the gluttonous, blobby, green party ghost. We're sure Belushi would be honored.
