jun 11 Learn More Hank Williams, Sr. Makes Grand Ole Opry Debut

Hank Williams, Sr. made his Grand Ole Opry debut on this day in 1949. His song "Your Cheatin' Heart" hit #1 on the Country & Western chart in 1953, and it became the unofficial anthem of the genre. Williams himself considered it the best song he'd ever written, and we're tempted to agree. Check it out: the track was covered by Elvis Presley, James Brown, LeAnn Rimes, Nat King Cole, Van Morrison, Patsy Cline, and Ray Charles, among others, and we're inclined to trust their taste in tunes.
