jun 17 Learn More Statue of Liberty Arrives in New York
The Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor on this day in 1885. In a bunch of crates. You didn't think she traveled across the Atlantic standing up like that, did you? It would scare the heck out of the fish. Ultimately, the statue's reassembly took over a year, and she was finally dedicated on October 28, 1886. She was also all shiny and copper-colored back then. It took about twenty years for Lady Liberty to oxidize and turn her familiar bluish-green.
