mar 22 Learn More The Stamp Act Passed


The Stamp Act was passed on this day in 1765, putting a tax on all sorts of printed materials. We're talking about playing cards, dice, pretty much any kind of legal document you can think of, magazines, and even calendars, which were taxed by how long they were. And that, Shmooper, is why 1766 was only two months long. Just kidding. It was, of course, a full twelve months, and in March of that year, the Stamp Act was repealed.
