may 12 Learn More Bob Dylan Walks Off The Ed Sullivan Show
Bob Dylan walked off The Ed Sullivan Show on this day in 1963. He was scheduled to play "Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues," a satirical song that took the John Birch Society down a peg or two (or ten). Dylan even had the song choice approved by Sullivan himself. During dress rehearsal, however, the producers told Dylan he had to choose a different tune. Dylan politely said, "Thanks, but no thanks," and hit the road. Sullivan came to Dylan's defense and condemned the network's decision, and Dylan's career got an even bigger boost than it would've had he actually performed the song.
