Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis patented blue jeans on this day in 1873. Strauss was the pants man, and Davis did the rivets (which is probably why nobody's wearing Jacob's 501 jeans today). So why are Levi's jeans blue? That's easy: blue dye was cheap. What's up with the orange seams? They match Davis's copper rivets.
