After Harold II got his royal butt royally kicked at The Battle of Hastings, which began on this day in 1066, his followers had to use his tattoos to identify his body. For example, he had "Edith"—his wife's name—inked across his heart. Kind of makes that astronaut riding a dolphin on your lower back seem a little silly, doesn't it?
