oct 27 Learn More Dylan Thomas Born
Welsh writer Dylan Thomas was born on this day in 1914. The "Do not go gentle into that good night" author, who lived fast and died young (from alcohol poisoning, at the age of 39), was reckless from the start. As a child, he broke his nose leaning over a balcony, broke his arm when he got hit by a van while riding a bike that he didn't know lacked brakes, and chipped his front tooth when he bit a lamppost while pretending to be a rabid dog. Yeah, some of those are more preventable than others.
