The most devastating stock market crash in American history took place on this fateful day in 1929. The market lost an incredible $14 billion on "Black Tuesday," leading to a rash of suicides. It allegedly got so bad at one New York hotel that, at check-in, the front desk asked guests if they needed a room for sleeping or for jumping.
