Samuel Adams was born on this day in 1722. His face may decorate many a dark brown bottle in your supermarket's beer aisle, but the American statesman didn't actually make beer. And, actually, that's probably not even his face. Sam Adams made malt, and he was terrible at it. He inherited the family malthouse after his dad died and quickly ran it into the ground. He was simply too preoccupied with leading the American Revolution.
