sep 28 Learn More Thomas Crapper Born


Entrepreneur Thomas Crapper was born on this day in 1836. We hate to break it to you, but he did not invent the toilet. He was a plumber, though, and founded the Thomas Crapper & Company sanitation business. Manholes with the company name on them in Westminster Abbey are a popular tourist attraction, specifically for brass rubbings. We're sure Chaucer, and all the other poets interred in the Abbey's famous Poet's Corner, are thrilled.
