About Me

Intro

Let's just say I am the self-proclaimed Ivy League of Colorado. I've got all the bells and whistles of a prestigious private school, only without the cutthroat culture. Here in the Mile-High City, I enjoy a more relaxed way of life.

Getting to enjoy the sunset over the Rocky Mountains every day doesn't hurt. Bring your yoga mats and hiking shoes if you want to hang with me, Shmoopers. And you will. Trust me. I am a one-stop shop of awesomeness.

I blend a rigorous academic course load and top-notch professors with an unbeatable location. With all I have to offer, you can't fault me for my almost-Ivy League pricing. I am worth every cent.

In fact, "Return on Your Investment" is my middle name. Don't be dissuaded by a little student loan debt. You'll be able to shrug that off in a few years with the high-paying job my degree will get you once you graduate. Right? Right.

Amidst all that hard work, I even know how to let loose once in a while. I can't wait to hit the slopes in Breckenridge or bop around LoDo via light rail. I love to let off steam, especially with all those future movers and shakers of Denver that are disguised as DU students.

Name

Pioneer Pete. Or is it Denver Boone? Wait…is it Ruckus? I've been having a bit of an identity crisis, so I'll have to get back to you on that. You can call me a Pio for now.

Hometown

Denver, Colorado. You know, the Mile-High City.

Birthdate

1864

Body Type

I don't do crowded lecture halls. They're too impersonal for me. I'm a little on the light side, but I like to stand out. So with only 5,400 undergrad students, my professors all have a fighting chance of learning your name. Total enrollment is approximately 11,500: half undergrad and half grad.

Current Living Situation

DU requires that you live on campus for the first two years. Don't fret, it's great. The freshman dorms (J-Mac and Halls) are where some of your best college memories will be made. But after that, you should really get a place with a kitchen. Stat.

The options: You can share a place with friends in a cute, old—emphasis on "old"—house, live in Nelson Hall on campus, or sign a lease with a student-housing complex. Just remember that when you roll the dice for a suitemate, you never know what might happen.

Be aware that you may have to sub-lease your place if you study abroad at the beginning of junior year. And who wouldn't want to study abroad?

Relationship Status

It's uncomplicatedly tense with Colorado College. We are bitter rivals, especially when it comes to hockey.

Religion

Fun fact: DU started out as the Colorado Seminary, a Methodist institution, but that didn't last long. The religious studies and theology classes spun off into the adjacent Iliff School of Theology in 1903.

Politics

Since I reside in a swing-state, I tend to lean either way. Whatever's convenient, you know?

You should apply to me if...

you're enamored with the Rocky Mountains, but are ready to pack your bags for Study Abroad Season.
