The University of Findlay
About Me
Intro
Considering that I'm located in one of Ohio's nicest hometowns, it's no surprise that people praise me for being a beautiful, friendly, open school with a small-town feel.
I know that sounds a bit cheesy, but really, people love the way I look and my personality. And even though my weather can never seem to decide which flavor of cold it wants to be, my students are known for their warm personalities.
If you've heard of me, chances are you've also heard I'm something of a science geek. I'm especially into pre-veterinary studies and biology, but I've got plenty of other great majors as well from English to equestrian studies. That's right, you can come here to specifically study horses.
Geeky or not, I like to strike a healthy medium between work and play. Sure, sometimes I cram BIG TIME right before finals week to get everything done...but that's because I know it's also important to get out and binge on junk food with my friends once in a while, too.
Name
Derrick the Oiler
Hometown
I'm situated in Findlay, Ohio. What used to be the shores of Northwestern Ohio's finest Black Swamp is now rated one of the best hometowns in Ohio. I'm the best of both worlds, a cross between a big town and a small city (and that's just how I like it).
Birthdate
1882
Body Type
I started out small, but keep growing every year. Not to mention I've got mad praise for my charming personality and good looks. I mean, with my 388 acres and a 73-acre main campus, what's not to like? I'm centrally located and big enough to feel like my own community.
At 4,200 students, I may not be huge, but that's part of my charm. You'll see a lot of familiar faces as you walk to your classes. Oh, and you'll thank me for the whole "small campus" thing when winter comes around.
It's pretty easy to find your way around, but maybe that's just because it's really flat here in Findlay. I'm not exaggerating, the land is as flat as a pancake. You'll notice it more when you head outside the city limits and hit farmland for as far as the eye can see.
Current Living Situation
I've got all you could ever want. Extroverted and looking for a roommate to share your freshman experience with? A roommate you shall have. Introverted and looking for some serious study time? Single dorm for you. Going big or going home? Looks like you'll need a whole house, including all of your friends, of course.
If none of those tickle your fancy, I've got the UF Cottages and UF Townhouses, which are usually inhabited by upperclassman. Everything is available on a first come, first serve basis based on credit hours.
So yeah, freshman may have a hard time snagging the apartments I offer. I think that's a good thing though. Keeping my first years in the dorms together gives them way more opportunities to make friends.
Relationship Status
In general I'm pretty easy to get along with. I've got a bunch of friends in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. We all like to bond over how fast the weather changes. That being said, I can't get along with everyone.
I mean, I try to get along with Ashland University, I really do. It just never seems to work out. Maybe because they're the Eagles and we're the Oilers: they're natural born enemies, you know.
I've also got this whole love/hate relationship with Tiffin University. Sometimes we're the best of pals, but when we get a competition going, we play for keeps.
Religion
I love my roots in Christianity, and I'm affiliated with Churches of God General Conference. Don't worry though. I'm not the type to try to change your religion, more of the "hey man, let's learn about each other's faiths and beliefs and have a pleasant conversation because we're awesome people" type.
If you've got the same belief, cool beans. If you've got a totally different belief, more cool beans. I've got plenty of clubs, events, and beans to go around no matter where your beliefs lay.
You should apply to me if...
you're looking for a place where you'll feel at home in a community that really cares about you.
