Thank you We sneak College one oh one where do
- 00:08
you start There are thousands of colleges in the us
- 00:13
So how are we supposed to know where we want
- 00:15
to go Where do we even start I think you
- 00:17
have to ask a lot of questions about yourself like
Full Transcript
- 00:20
first of all why are you going to college What
- 00:22
do you hope to get out of that's in terms
- 00:23
of the degree that you might want to study or
- 00:25
just all the possibilities that you can take his different
- 00:28
majors you want to think about the size of the
- 00:30
college in terms of are you comfortable in a huge
- 00:33
environment like thirty thousand students Or do you want more
- 00:35
like fifteen hundred students where you walk around to know
- 00:38
pretty much everybody After a couple of years you want
- 00:41
to think about the setting in terms of the like
- 00:43
is it in a town a small town a huge
- 00:46
city like new york or somewhere in between like suburb
- 00:49
You want to think about the political nature which is
- 00:51
something a lot of people don't really think about until
- 00:54
they get to college and they think hey these people
- 00:56
don't really dress like i do you know what's with
- 00:58
all the piercings the tattoos the multiple hair colors or
- 01:01
they want to go to something a little bit more
- 01:02
traditional or school spirit or a greek system like they're
- 01:07
all these different factors to think about And so i
- 01:09
think it helps to know yourself and be honest with
- 01:11
what she like and don't like and make a list
- 01:13
of those things and a lot of colleges will actually
- 01:16
match those So would you say it's important Teo kind
- 01:19
of narrow your focus that where is it good to
- 01:21
keep your options open and say you know well right
- 01:23
now i feel like i'm more traditional but maybe i
- 01:25
want to push my boundaries or the other way around
- 01:27
i think it's good initially to keep your options open
- 01:30
What i found is typically the colleges that get ruled
- 01:32
out sometimes without even visiting them are small rural liberal
- 01:36
arts colleges and what do you have to do is
- 01:39
actually go to the campus and see about three or
- 01:42
four hours ago i just had one of my students
- 01:44
email me i'm from williams college and she gets back
- 01:47
from there and says i am so happy i visited
- 01:49
here We just drove through trees for hours and we
- 01:52
got here and i thought this is totally a place
- 01:54
for me and she wasn't going to go there But
- 01:56
she just took the suggestion and said i have nothing
- 01:58
to lose it's early and i'll just check it out
- 02:01
And now she's all about small liberal arts college is
- 02:03
in the middle of the woods Ask yourself why you're
- 02:07
even going to college and what you want to get
- 02:09
out of it Think about the majors offered by each
- 02:12
college and how they match with your goals Figure out
- 02:16
what sized college you want to attend a small liberal
- 02:19
arts school or big public university Think about whether you
- 02:24
want to go to a school in a small town
- 02:26
a suburb or a city No your politics decide if
- 02:32
you care about the liberal or conservative leanings of the
- 02:35
school Is there anything else you care about School spirit
- 02:39
greek system quality of food know yourself Keep your options
- 02:44
open give smaller schools a chance Visiting is a great
- 02:50
way to assess a college Proximity of dominoes to dorm 00:02:57.376 --> [endTime] room
