Glory

Notice the term is announcer, not player. There are several former players who, in retirement, became broadcasters to stay connected with the game. But their glory days, if they had any, ended when they left the field. Sportscasters are in the profession of talking about other people's glory and don't generally have much of their own.

Al Michaels' famous call during the Miracle On Ice solidified him in America's consciousness, but that's because his words added emphasis and panache to what happened on the ice, not in the broadcast booth.
