Given the Title of the Movie, We're Pretty Sure He's Not Going to School Today
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off begins with some simple opening credits: chunky blue text on a black background while we hear a Chicago radio station WLS broadcasting the day's wonderful weather outlook. (It's cloudy with a chance of deep dish pizza. Okay, no, not really. But how awesome would that be?)
- Cut to the exterior of the Bueller family's house in suburban Chicago. It's big and white with a circular driveway. Well done, Bueller clan.
- Ferris is sick in bed. His concerned mom and dad hover over him, and we see their concern from Ferris's perspective. Based on Mom's fringe-tastic haircut, this is the mid-'80s.
- Fun fact: This is also when the actors that play Ferris's parents—Cindy Pickett and Lyman Ward—first met. They later married and had two kids. (And got divorced, but let's focus on the positive, okay?)
- Ferris insists that he has to go to school because he has a test. Mom and Dad insist that he stay home. Given the title of the movie, we're going to put fifty bucks on him not going to school today.
- Jeanie, Ferris's sister, enters, and claims that Ferris is lying. He ratchets up the drama, asking if that is, in fact, Jeanie that he hears because he can't see that far. Jeanie lovingly tells him to "bite the big one," and Ferris winks at her. Hey—he's not sick after all.
- Jeanie complains that this whole situation is totally unfair and that she wants out of the family.
- Mom and Dad tell Ferris they'll check on him later, and Ferris really hams it up, busting out lots of baby talk. Ugh. Baby talk is the worst.
- As soon as everybody vacates his room, Ferris sits upright in bed and looks into the camera, breaking the fourth wall. "They bought it," he says, triumphantly.
