Ebenezer Balfour of Shaws

Ebenezer Balfour may not appear in Kidnapped for very long, but by arranging to have Davie abducted, he's the cause of all Davie's subsequent adventures. What's more, Davie's main struggle throughout the novel is to find justice against Ebenezer. Davie's storyline with Ebenezer is one of the few plot threads that actually gets tied off by the end of the novel, demonstrating the importance of the Davie-Ebenezer conflict to Kidnapped. Ebenezer is clearly Davie's primary antagonist.
