My Life in Dog Years isn't a book about people. It's about dogs—man's best friend—so it's not surprising that all the relationships it describes are strictly platonic. Technically there's a cameo from Arnie, a big tomcat who's always looking for a mate. Paulsen refers to Arnie's efforts as "trying to get married" (6.65), which is hilarious. Steamy? Not so much.
