- Mother carries Ruth May out of the ant-covered house. Ruth May believes this is all happening because Leah fed that ant to the ant lion, and now the ants are taking revenge.
- At the river, someone Congolese takes Ruth May from her mother and she starts kicking and screaming.
- Then she remembers that Nelson told her of a safe place to go to. She hadn't been thinking of the place every day like she was supposed to.
- She finally thinks of the safest place: a green mamba snake in the tree. You don't have to be afraid because you are one, and you're the same as everything else around you.
