- Back when Leah finally recovered from the fever in Bulungu, they had a few visitors from Kilanga. Each visitor brought them personal belongings Leah had left behind, or information.
- Their house had burned down and Father was living like a crazy man in the jungle.
- In Bulungu, Anatole found himself on the wrong side of the revolution and was arrested. Now Leah pretends to be a nun.
- She helps the other nuns clean and heal people in the clinic, waits for letters from Anatole, and worries he's never going to be freed.
