The Prince and the Pauper Chapter 4 Summary

The Prince's Troubles Begin

  • After being carried far away from the palace by the laughing mob, the prince finds himself in front of Christ's Church. There are a bunch of boys playing in front of it, and Edward tells them that the prince wants to speak with their master.
  • Obviously, all they see in front of them is the beggar Tom Canty, so they laugh and make fun of him.
  • When Edward threatens to have the beggars killed, things turn ugly, and they beat him up. He totally didn't see that coming.
  • By the end of the day, the prince is dead tired. He's found his way to Offal Court, and John Canty has found him. The prince tries to explain what happened, but all John Canty cares about is money. He just assumes that Tom has gone crazy and drags the prince home.
