Job Satisfaction

39%

General quality of life statement

Say it ain't so. Statistically, graphic design majors aren't all that happy after college. A measly 39% of them report being satisfied in their jobs after they've graduated. This might have something to do with the fact that they get paid less than other graduates. Check it out: the median household income is $51,000, but for graphic design majors, it's only $45,000. (And we all know $6k can go a long way.)

It might also be because the industry is tough to break into. Sure, there are different roads to take, but the long and the short of it is that this is most designers have a long, uphill battle, especially in the first couple years out of school. They have to spend time getting experience before anyone will want to hire them full-time.

But don't let that stop you. Shmoop loves to tell it like it is, but we also know that these stats don't make this a poor career choice for everyone. We just want you to know what you're in for with this major.

Hey, maybe you'll be one of the 39% who love it. We say go for it.
