Have you ever thought to yourself that the worst day on a boat is better than the best day on land? If so, you haven't read up on any famous shipwrecks. You're also exactly the kind of person who is going to enjoy this kind of life.
For starters, you're going to be out on boats a lot. So if you get seasick easily, maybe look into something else. You're also going to be traveling. The ocean is pretty big, so any sample size in your studies is going to have to be just as big. You're going all over the world by water. That sounds pretty wonderful to us.
The money is also surprisingly good. Although pure science is a significant part of this career path, there are a lot of real-world applications. There are private corporations, some of which are fairly surprising, who could use you on their payroll. While you're not going to be rolling in cash right away, you are going to be far more comfortable than you probably thought.
If any of this sounds appealing, go for it. Oceanography is not just a fun option, it's downright lucrative. Plus, you'll probably end up eating a lot of lobster. That stuff's fancy.
