Reading RF.K.2.E

Add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words.

Now our mini Lewis Carrolls are ready to mix and match phonemes. This substandard brings the previous phoneme-centric and rhyming standards together and expects students to understand relationships between the individual parts of similar words. For example, kindergartners should be able to take hat and turn it into cat, turn cat into cap, and cap into cup.
