Common Core Standards

Grade 1

Reading RL.1.5

Explain major differences between books that tell stories and books that give information, drawing on a wide reading of a range of text types.

This Common Core standard is pretty self-explanatory. By the end of first grade, students should be able to realize that reading a novel is not always the best way to learn about history and that the lives of people in autobiographies are actually real, not fictional.
