Common Core Standards

Grade 4

Writing W.4.9.A

Apply grade 4 Reading standards to literature (e.g., "Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text [e.g., a character's thoughts, words, or actions].").

This substandard is simply reinforcing the literature standards. It asks students to showcase their reading literature skills through writing. Pretty easy, right? So if you want students to "describe in depth a character, setting, or event," then you'll just have them write about a "character, setting, or event," using the text to support their ideas.
