Louisiana State University
Hallmarks and Quirks
Things I'm Good At:
- Football. Football, football, football.
- Petroleum engineering. We're anything but gassy.
- Landscape architecture. Don't ask me how or why, but we're also the best at this.
- Partying and Mardi Gras. What other school in the country gets a whole week off for Mardi Gras?
- Cooking. Cajun food for the win.
My Top 5 Must-Haves:
- Like I've said so many times before, football.
- Booze. Any and all.
- Southern pride. If you ain't got it, you ain't welcome.
- A social personality and a serious party attitude.
- Tailgating equipment. Mini barbecues and coolers are staples around here.
Why You Might Have Heard of Me:
- What great football player didn't go to LSU?
- I have a live tiger on campus. Me-ow.
- Yeah, I think that's pretty much it.
On a regular Saturday night, you can find me...
Well obviously, if it's fall, I'll be in Tiger Stadium with 102,000 of my closest friends.
Other than that, I love hanging out in bars and clubs. I used to hang out in the Tigerland bars a lot when I turned twenty-one, a long, long time ago.
Now that I'm old and distinguished, I go to Third Street in downtown Baton Rouge. They have a more mature crowd and always a few live music acts.
Favorite Hangouts:
- Tigerland bars for silly nights
- Pluckers Wing Bar is one of my favorite late-night eat spots.
- And of course, how could anyone forget Raising Canes chicken fingers?
Quirks:
- I don't use the +/- system that so many other schools seem to use these days.
- Our colors are purple and gold—so representative of my state's culture.
- We not only offer French, but we include an emphasis on Cajun French. We can't forget our Southern roots.
Famous Alumni:
- James Carville went here—you know, the famous Democratic strategist. He's so Cajun and I love him for it.
- Shaquille O'Neal, the greatest basketball player of all time
- Eduardo Aguirre, former United States Ambassador to Spain and Andorra.
- Better Than Ezra, a very good band.
- Will Wright, creator of The Sims
