The Corporate World

While Alan's still trying to claw his way up the corporate ladder, the system isn't favoring him. We see that his first attempt at a career tanks because of corporate greed and an insatiable desire to make everything leaner, faster, and more efficient.

There's no mercy in the business world, as Alan well knows. And although Alan isn't looking to "slay the beast" here, it doesn't mean that Eggers isn't taking square aim at the economic forces that drive and so many like him to despair.
