• Moose moves to Alcatraz with his family when he's in seventh grade.
• He starts a new school and meets Piper, Theresa, Annie, and Jimmy.
• He goes to school and makes friends with Scout; after school, he plays baseball with his classmates.
• Moose gets caught in the middle Piper's laundry service scheme—even though he tries to avoid it. Despite not actually doing anything, he is deemed guilty by association when the warden catches wind of what's going on.
• When Natalie doesn't get into the Esther P. Marinoff School, Moose is designated as her babysitter—every day after school.
• This means he can't play ball with his friends anymore. After Scout tries to work around his schedule, he gets frustrated with Moose.
• Moose is a part of the next Piper scheme: stalking Mrs. Capone on the ferry when she comes to visit her famous son at Alcatraz, Al.
• Moose becomes obsessed with finding a convict baseball before Piper does, and he takes Natalie with him to search for one every day.
• After a few days of searching, Moose finds out that Natalie has been making friends with Convict 105.
• Moose's wanderings come to an end and he stays in the house with Natalie, who fusses and fights about wanting to see 105 again.
• Moose has been growing more opinionated about what helps Natalie and what doesn't, and on Natalie's birthday, he tells his mom that they have to face facts and stop lying about her age. This starts a huge fight.
• In the end, his mom agrees with him and they make up.
• When Natalie is rejected from the school a second time, Moose decides to write a letter to Al Capone, asking that he use one of his connections to get Natalie into her school.
• Within days, Natalie is accepted. Moose finds a note from Capone in the sleeve of one of his convict-washed shirts that simply says: "Done."
