Character Role Analysis
Theodore Finch and Mrs. Markey
Finch's determined to help Violet through her grief over Eleanor. He tells her:
"You need shoving, not pushing. You need to jump back on that camel. Otherwise you're going to stay up on the ledge you've made for yourself." (16.12)
He may be mixing his metaphors, but he's not wrong. Eventually, his methods work.
Violet's mother's a writer, so it's natural that V turns to her for inspiration when she's brainstorming a new web magazine. Violet reports:
She starts asking questions. Would this be for girls my age or high school and beyond? Would I want to write all the content or work with contributors? What would be the purpose—why do I want to start another magazine to begin with? (26.76)
It's a brief, but nice moment in the book where the mother-daughter duo bonds over something that's not someone's death.
